Admissions Procedures
To be considered for admission into the Florida State University College of Law J.M. program, candidates must have received at least a bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. institution of hold the international equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree prior to the commencement of classes. Individuals who already hold a first degree in law should consider the Master of Laws (LL.M.) program.
The College of Law Juris Master program seeks to admit and enroll students who, together, bring to the law school a diverse set of backgrounds, interests, personal and professional experiences and perspectives, and who also have a record of academic success. There is no minimum GPA, GRE or years of professional experience required to be considered for admission to the Juris Master program.
It is an applicant's duty to ensure that materials submitted for the application packet are complete, accurate, display the candidate's full potential as a prospective admitted student and are submitted by the application deadline. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
FSU is waiving the GRE as a requirement for admission to certain master’s and specialist degree programs for the Summer 2021 and Fall 2021 terms. The GRE waiver will be automatically applied to all J.M. applications for those terms.
Application Requirements
- Register for an FSU EMPLID. You will receive a confirmation email after registering that provides you with your nine-digit FSU EMPLID. Write down the FSU EMPLID as it is required for the application. Current/previous Florida State University students that already have an FSU EMPLID do not need to create a new one.
- Complete a Juris Master application. Create an account and complete a Juris Master application through this portal and include the following required items:
- A copy of official or unofficial transcripts from your Bachelor's Degree
- Copies of transcripts may be uploaded into the online application for review purposes only. Unofficial transcripts must contain GPA information and degree conferral date (with the exception of applicants who are in their last semester of their bachelor's degree).
- Official transcripts from each college and/or university attended must be submitted to the Juris Master Program.
- The most efficient way to submit copies official transcripts from your previous institution option is via electronic transmission.
- Transcripts should be sent electronically to law-jurismaster@law.fsu.edu.
- Transcripts can also be sent electronically to the Office of Admissions at Florida State University by selecting Florida State University as the recipient. Please inform the Juris Master Program if official transcripts were sent electronically by selecting our school or school code so that they can be downloaded from the main admissions office.

Please note: Mailed transcripts can take up to a month to reach the Juris Master Program. - Florida State University and other official transcripts already on file as part of the student's permanent record can be obtained by the Juris Master Program at the request of the applicant.
- Transfer credit posted on the record of another institution is not accepted in lieu of submitting the official transcript from the original institution.
- Transcripts are considered official when they are sent directly from the college or university to the Juris Master Program and contain an official seal and/or signature. Transcripts bearing the statement "Issued to Student," notarized transcripts, or transcripts submitted by the applicant are not considered official.
- Any post-secondary education at an institution outside the United States must go through an official evaluation by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.
- A copy of official or unofficial transcripts from your Bachelor's Degree
- Personal statement. In 500 words or fewer describe your short and long-term educational and career goals and how the J.M. program can help you achieve those goals.
- Professional resume or CV.
- The GRE waiver will be automatically applied to all Summer and Fall 2021 applicants.
- Residency Affidavit. Please download and complete the Florida Resident Affidavit if you are a resident of Florida OR the Non-Florida Resident Affidavit if you are not a resident of Florida. Two residency support documents must be submitted with a Florida Resident Affidavit. A list of eligible documents can be found here.
- Educational Institution Discipline or Violations of Law. You must include in the application a written explanation that includes a description as well as the final disposition of the incident(s).
